Routes and Mapping

I map all of my routes compulsively.
Below I describe my experience with various online and offline software; I show screen shots of  Hidden Lake route as an example for each.

  • mapmyrun.com - terribly annoying ads, slow interface, and the last straw - when I finally finished mapping out the 7-mile course an ad popped up in the way of my clicker obliterating all of my hard work.

  • maps.google.com - Google is always great but lacks a lot of specific features, such as showing mile markers, which need to be inserted manually as you are drawing the route. A great feature is ability to draw multiple tracks at different colors to identify specific sections of the course by mileage or by location.
I will put all Google routes on a single map; although unless this becomes my primary mapping
software I will be slow at making any additions to this: My Google Map Routes

  • walkjogrun.net - my current software of choice; simple, straight-forward, fairly fast and user-friendly; shows mile markers and has an elevation profile in addition to some other nifty things that I don't use.
My WalkJogRun Routes - as long as I stick with this software I will maintain my full database here

(UPDATE 05/06/10):
runningAHEAD.com - has not only become my logging option of choice, but also has the BEST mapper application that I've used so far! See my full review of this wonderful program here; scroll down to "Route Mapping" close to the bottom of the review.
